Palace of Westminster Restoration Phase One

A £3BN, seven-year preliminary phase to repair the crumbling Palace of Westminster, before Parliament chooses between fully vacating the building or working around it.

More than 400km of cabling and a warren of Victorian-era service tunnels beneath the palace have never been fully replaced, causing over 2,900 emergency call-outs a month and costing £1.5M a week just to patch up.
The recommended first phase runs up to seven years and £3BN, covering urgent repairs, asbestos removal and detailed costing of the long-term options.
