Paris unveiled the Eiffel Tower in its original 1907 gold-brown shade in June 2024, weeks before hosting the Olympic Games, after a repaint cut back from about a third of the ironwork to roughly 5 per cent.

The tower's ironwork needed repainting to fight a century of rust, a job usually done every seven years but delayed since the pandemic.
The 20th painting campaign was scaled back: about 30% of the tower was to be stripped and given two new coats, but COVID-19 delays and lead in the old paint cut that to roughly 5%, according to Reuters in July 2022.
The roughly $60M repaint returned the tower to Gustave Eiffel's original 1907 yellow-brown shade rather than the darker "Eiffel Tower brown" used since 1968.
Crews finished the visible restoration in time for Paris to mount the Olympic rings on the tower on June 7, 2024, ahead of the Summer Games.
Some engineers have since questioned whether the cosmetic repaint addressed the tower's deeper corrosion problems.
