Global electric car sales, 2026

23M cars (2026) → 6.6M cars (2021) → 10M cars (2022) → 14M cars (2023) → 17M cars (2024) → 20M cars (2025)

Millions of battery electric and plug-in hybrid cars sold worldwide. The IEA outlook is sensitive to affordability, policy and energy prices; this is not a forecast of all vehicle sales. History: Millions of electric (BEV+PHEV) cars from successive IEA executive summaries (iea.org returns 403 to scripts, so read via Wayback copies); 2022-2025 are IEA's rounded headline figures ('exceeded 10', 'neared 14', 'exceeded 17', 'exceed 20') so treat them as approximate, each from the report of that vintage.
