Gatwick's Northern Runway Enters Full Use as a Second Runway

The privately financed project shifts Gatwick's standby northern runway 12 metres north so it can take departures alongside the main runway, adding room for around 100,000 more flights a year. The Court of Appeal dismissed the last legal challenge on 4 August 2026, and the work also covers terminal extensions, new airport buildings and a flyover at the South Terminal roundabout.
