EASA certified the CFM LEAP-1A-powered A321XLR on 19 July 2024, clearing the 4,700 nmi single-aisle for service at the end of the summer.
- EASA executive director Florian Guillermet handed the type certificate to A321XLR chief engineer Isabelle Bloy; the Pratt & Whitney version was slated for later in 2024[1]
- Airbus CEO Commercial Aircraft Christian Scherer called it "a key milestone" and said the next step was first commercial missions; entry into service was set for the end of summer[1]
- The XLR followed an extensive programme with three test aircraft after the June 2022 first flight[1][5]
- Airbus claims 30 percent less fuel per seat than previous-generation competitors and roughly half the trip cost of modern widebodies[1]
