SpaceX Catches a Super Heavy Booster With Tower Arms on Starship Flight 5
- On Starship's fifth flight on 13 October 2024, Super Heavy Booster 12 returned to the launch site and was caught by the 'Mechazilla' tower's chopstick arms, the first such catch of a returning booster[1][2]
- It succeeded on the first-ever attempt: after liftoff at 12:25 UTC the booster hovered near the tower about seven minutes later, slid sideways to line up with the arms, and the arms closed around it before its engines shut down[1][2]
