It is part of the o3 family (o3-mini 31 January 2025, o3 16 April 2025); o3 is due to retire from ChatGPT on 26 August 2026 with the API unaffected[1][3]
Notable features
o3-pro is an o-series reasoning model, trained with reinforcement learning, that uses more compute than o3 to think harder and give consistently better answers; in the API it runs only in the Responses API, and some requests can take several minutes[2]
It takes text and image input and returns text, with a 200,000-token context window, up to 100,000 output tokens and a 1 June 2024 knowledge cutoff; API pricing is $20 per million input and $80 per million output tokens[2]
Human testers preferred o3-pro over o3 across all queries (64%) and in every tested category, including programming (62.7%) and data analysis (64.3%)[4]
Pass@1 results: AIME 2024 93% (o3 90%, o1-pro 86%), GPQA Diamond 84% (81%, 79%), Codeforces 2748 (2517, 1707); the stricter 4/4 reliability test gave AIME 90%, GPQA 76% and Codeforces 2301[4]
Limitations at launch: temporary chats disabled, no image generation, no Canvas, and it can be slower than o1-pro in some cases[4]
