Estimate from the version's published specs and reviews, 0-5; scores are only comparable within one criteria year. Scored as launched (1.0 Pro): 1080p at 24 fps, clips of about 10-12 s, silent, text and image input. Speed from ByteDance's 41 s for a 5 s 1080p clip on an NVIDIA L20 (a 1080p figure, so conservative against the 720p anchor). Realism: praised for smooth motion and multi-shot work, with stiff character action. No tier-1 outlet hands-on exists; the reviews are an AI film school, a video agency, and two comparison sites, one of them affiliate-style.[1]
While explosions, animals, and liquid simulations look smooth and believable, character actions often feel stiff, mechanical, or looped.
Another thing we noticed, even before doing further research, is that its render and generation time is much faster than any other generative AI tool we have tried.
Both clips came back photorealistic, and independent benchmarks place both models at or near the top of the field, so on the pure moving image neither is meaningfully ahead.
Generating five seconds of Full HD video takes about 41 seconds, which ByteDance says is significantly faster than comparable models.

Secondary coverage and Wikipedia[2] date the launch to the Volcano Engine FORCE conference on 11 June 2025; the Seedance 1.0 technical report (arXiv 2506.09113) was posted the same week.
Says Seedance was first released in June 2025 as ByteDance's AI text-to-video model.[1]
