Windows 10's Consumer Security Updates Stop for Good

Microsoft's one-year consumer Extended Security Updates programme for Windows 10 22H2 delivers its last Critical and Important patches. A home Windows 10 PC keeps working after this date, but it stops receiving security fixes of any kind, and 13 October 2026 is also the last day anyone can enrol.

Consumer ESU was the one-year bridge Microsoft offered after Windows 10 itself left support on 14 October 2025: security-only updates for eligible Windows 10 version 22H2 devices, and nothing else. [S]
13 October 2026 is both the last day to enrol and the last day an enrolled device is served, so there is no grace period behind it. [S]
After it, an unpatched Windows 10 machine stays usable and stays exposed - every vulnerability found from then on is permanent on that install unless it moves to Windows 11. [S]

The alleged description leaked by PCPortal.org.ru did say the August update will include new features and functionality. However, previous reports suggest the update itself will be minor and may simply include bug fixes and stability tweaks for existing features. Microsoft initially planned to bring back the Start menu in Windows 8.1 Update 2. But the company apparently changed its mind and now intends to revive the Start menu in what could be Windows 9, aka Threshold, slated for release in April 2015.
