NVIDIA Unveils the Isaac GR00T Reference Humanoid

At GTC Taipei, NVIDIA announced the first open humanoid reference design: a Unitree H2 Plus chassis with Sharpa Wave five-finger tactile hands for the body, and Jetson Thor compute plus the open Isaac GR00T stack for the brain, aimed at academic robotics labs.

NVIDIA announced the Isaac GR00T Reference Humanoid Robot at GTC Taipei on 1 June 2026 - the first open humanoid reference design built on Jetson Thor and the open Isaac GR00T development platform.^[1]

Notable features

The design pairs a Unitree H2 Plus chassis standing nearly six feet tall with Sharpa Wave tactile five-finger hands as the body, and Jetson Thor onboard compute with Isaac GR00T software and workflows as the brain.^[1]
It is meant to remove the need for proprietary platforms in frontier humanoid research, covering hardware integration, data collection, simulation, training, evaluation and deployment in one system.^[1]
The robot weighs about 150 lb, with 31 degrees of freedom in the body and 22 in each hand; it senses through a head-mounted stereo camera (140° by 102° field of view), wrist cameras, an IMU and a microphone and speaker array.^[1][3]
The Jetson AGX Thor T5000 pairs its Blackwell GPU with a 14-core Arm CPU and 128 GB of unified memory at 40-130 W; the arms give up to 120 N·m of torque and carry 7 kg rated (15 kg peak), the legs up to 360 N·m, from a 0.972 kWh battery.^[1][3]
Jetson AGX Thor T5000 supplies up to 2,070 FP4 teraflops on Blackwell, and the robot carries about 75 degrees of freedom across body and hands with roughly three hours of battery; Unitree is to sell it from late 2026.^[2][3]
