Hermès Opens 24th French Leather Workshop, in Charente
- Hermès inaugurated its 24th French leather goods workshop in L'Isle-d'Espagnac, Charente, on 26 September 2025, its fourth site in the South-West craft hub after Nontron (1995), Saint-Junien (1998) and Montbron (2014)[1]
- The 5,800-square-metre workshop will ultimately employ 260 artisans and creates 300 local jobs; it makes Kelly and Birkin bags and small leather goods[1][2]
- Built with architecture firm Guiraud-Manenc from low-carbon materials (Charente stone, raw earth, straw insulation, poplar and red cedar), the building carries 1,800 square metres of solar panels and a geothermal system[1]
- Recruits train at the École Hermès des savoir-faire, which Hermès created in 2021 to pass on its leatherworking know-how[1]
