Vistula Spit Canal Opens, Bypassing Russian Waters
- The canal across the Polish Vistula Spit was officially inaugurated on 17 September 2022, creating a second connection between the Vistula Lagoon and the Gulf of Gdańsk so ships can reach the port of Elbląg without passing through the Russian Strait of Baltiysk, saving a 100 km journey[2]
