Microsoft quietly listed the Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID ($129.99) and Modern Mouse ($49.99) in its online store around 16 June 2017, marked "coming soon" with no clear launch date[1][3]
HEXUS did not find either product in the UK store[1]
Notable features
The keyboard has an aluminium frame Microsoft calls "virtually indestructible", full QWERTY with numpad, and a fingerprint sensor in the position of the right-hand Windows or Alt/Ctrl area, made to blend in as a normal key[1][3]
It connects by USB or Bluetooth, with 33 feet of open-air range; fingerprint login uses Windows Hello on Windows 10 and does not work on Apple devices[1][3]
HEXUS lists the keyboard at 420.9 x 112.6 x 19.3mm (16.57 x 4.43 x 0.76 inches) and 413.5g (14.58oz), with a rechargeable battery rated for up to 4 months on a full charge and Bluetooth Low Energy 4.0/4.1/4.2 support[1]
The Modern Mouse is a metal Bluetooth 4.0 mouse using AAA batteries for about 12 months, and is not compatible with macOS[1][3]
