English Wikipedia^[1] says the line "will open between Hongmiao and Pinggu in late 2026", and the August 2026 report it cites says the line 年底基本具备开通条件 ("will basically meet the conditions for opening by the end of the year"), so the day stands for late 2026.

First promised for 12/31/2025; now 12 months later. Stated: a 2021 reply on the Beijing government's public message board, cited by Wikipedia, said the Chaoyang section was 计划2025年建成通车 ("planned to be built and opened to traffic in 2025"), while the line is now described as opening "between Hongmiao and Pinggu in late 2026".

Line 22, built as the Pinggu line, is the first inter-provincial metro line between Beijing and Hebei: 81.82 km and 22 stations from Dongdaqiao in Chaoyang through Tongzhou and Sanhe in Hebei out to Pinggu, using 8-car Type D trains at up to 160 km/h. Empty trial running between Hongmiao and Pinggu began on 25 August 2026; Jintai Xizhao and Dongdaqiao are held back to 2029.

The route was changed from its original plan: it was to run from Dongfeng Beiqiao to Juhewan, but in 2019 it was announced it would still start in the urban centre of Pinggu and, on reaching Yanjiao, head south through Tongzhou District and run under Chaoyang Road between Line 6 and the Batong Line towards the Beijing central business district, "to serve more populated areas of the city and enhance integration between Beijing's city center and its new sub-center in Tongzhou District"; the Dongfeng Beiqiao terminus is now reserved as long-term planning^[1]
