East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit Construction
- City, state and federal leaders kicked off construction of the East Colfax Avenue Bus Rapid Transit line on Friday, 4 October 2024 at City Park Esplanade in Denver, and work crews began mobilising the week of 7 October at Broadway and East Colfax[1]
- At the ceremony the Federal Transit Administration awarded $150 million, the maximum allowed by its Capital Investment Grant program[1][4]
- Construction is estimated at $280 million: $150 million from the US Department of Transportation, $88 million from Denver (including $55 million from the Elevate Denver bond), $28.4 million from the Denver Regional Council of Governments and $14 million from Aurora[1][6]
- The City and County of Denver is building the line with contractor Kraemer North America, in phases starting between Broadway and Williams Street[1][5]
- Aurora broke ground on its segment, from Yosemite Street to the Colfax station at I-225, on 1 May 2026[3]
- In fall 2026 the two center lanes from Broadway to Colorado Boulevard become bus-only, with routes 15 and 15L boarding at the new center stations[2]
- RTD says Bus Rapid Transit service will begin when construction is complete at the end of 2027; its 2024 release put completion in Q4 2027[1][2]
- Businesses along the corridor feared the loss of about 300 of 970 parking spaces, and the partners launched the We Back the Fax campaign to support them during construction[1][5]
Notable features
- 8.6-mile line from Civic Center Station to I-225 in Aurora, with dedicated center-running lanes from Broadway to Yosemite Street[1][4]
- Signal priority at intersections and faster boarding, cutting transit travel time along the full stretch by up to 30 minutes[1][4]
- A bus every four minutes on weekdays and service 24 hours a day on RTD's busiest bus corridor, used by about 22,000 riders each weekday[1][4]
- More trees and lighting and improved sidewalks and transit stops along the avenue[1]

Something missing or wrong? Say it in your own words: a link that backs this pin up, a different start or end date and why, or a fact it lacks or gets wrong. The AI checks it against this pin's sources, searches for better ones, and adds any page that backs you up. The pin's own sources still count most.
