Coco Opens in US Theaters
- Coco premiered at the Morelia International Film Festival in Mexico on 20 October 2017, reached Mexican theaters the following week, and opened in the United States on 22 November. It follows 12-year-old Miguel, accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead, where he seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return home and reverse his family's ban on music.[1][4]
- Lee Unkrich directed from a screenplay by Adrian Molina and Matthew Aldrich, with Anthony Gonzalez, Gael Garcia Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Alanna Ubach, Renee Victor, Ana Ofelia Murguia and Edward James Olmos voicing the cast. Michael Giacchino composed the score.[1]
- The concept was inspired by the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead, and Unkrich, Molina and some of the crew visited Mexico for research. Wikipedia reports a cost of $175-225 million, making it the first film with a nine-figure budget to feature an all-Latino principal cast.[1]
- Rotten Tomatoes shows a 97% Tomatometer score from 357 critic reviews, with an average rating of 8.3/10. At the 90th Academy Awards Coco won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.[1][2]
- Box Office Mojo lists a lifetime worldwide gross of US$822.4 million and a US opening weekend of US$50.8 million.[3]

Something missing or wrong? Say it in your own words: a link that backs this pin up, a different start or end date and why, or a fact it lacks or gets wrong. The AI checks it against this pin's sources, searches for better ones, and adds any page that backs you up. The pin's own sources still count most. A picture that shows something else, or shows it badly, is looked at too, and moved down or replaced.
