Belgium's food safety agency AFSCA withdrew the Arlon plant's authorisation after about a hundred salmonellosis cases in Europe, and Ferrero recalled every Kinder Surprise, Mini Eggs, Surprise Maxi and Schoko-Bons made there.

After three months of supervised production with every batch tested, Belgium's food safety agency gave the Arlon Kinder plant a definitive licence, with closer unannounced inspections for the following year.

Fifteen months after the Kinder outbreak, Ferrero's own checks found salmonella in the Arlon plant's surroundings - floor, stairs or skirting - and it stopped the lines concerned; no finished product tested positive.
