China's customs suspended imports of all aquatic products from Japan on the day Japan began releasing treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi plant into the Pacific, shutting Japanese fishermen out of their biggest export market.

China resumed imports of Japanese aquatic products from all but ten prefectures, including Fukushima and Tokyo, nearly two years after its total ban, with exporters required to re-register with Chinese customs.

Six tonnes of Hokkaido scallops were shipped to China, the first Japanese seafood sent there since Beijing's total ban of August 2023, after China reopened to most prefectures.
