Consumers Energy's 1960s-built J.H. Campbell coal plant in West Olive, Michigan, was due to retire on 31 May 2025 but the Department of Energy has forced it to keep running under six emergency orders, the latest through 14 November 2026; a federal appeals court vacated the first order on 11 September.
