The OpenAI[2][4][5] Developers post on X is stamped 12 March 2026 and OpenAI's API changelog lists the same Mar 12 entry; AIBase[3] reported it on 13 March.
Mar 12 feature entry: reusable character references, generations up to 20 seconds, 1080p for sora-2-pro at $0.70 per second, video extensions and Batch API support for POST /v1/videos; a second entry adds /v1/videos/edits to replace remix.[1]
News write-up of the update: character consistency, 20 seconds up from a previous 12 or 16, video extension, and 16:9 and 9:16 exports; says nothing independent about quality.[1]
Records that on 24 March 2026 OpenAI[2][5] notified developers that the Videos API and all Sora 2 models would be removed on 24 September 2026.
Guide: sora-2-pro for 1080p exports in 1920x1080 or 1080x1920, 16 and 20 second generations on both models, input_reference images, and an edits endpoint replacing remix.[1]
