"Diablo V is officially in development and coming Spring 2029", given its first glimpse at the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony on 12 September 2026^[1][2][3]
An early look at "the world, classes and creative vision" was scheduled for a Main Stage panel on September 12 at 1:45 p.m. PT, hosted by Johanna Faries with the Diablo V development team on story, world-building and class design philosophy; the page calls it "Diablo V: Forging the Next Era" in one place and "Diablo V: Forging the Future" in its schedule^[1]
The reveal was a surprise - "Blizzard managed to keep the lid on Diablo 5 ahead of the event" - and headlined BlizzCon 2026, which Windows Central called "a bombshell"^[2][3]
Blizzard made clear Diablo IV continues alongside it, with Season of Hell's Legacy from September 15 and the Amazon class pack in the first half of 2027^[1][2][3]

Players become the Heir to Westmarch, crossing a Sanctuary that Diablo actively reshapes, with a procedural landscape where terrain, points of interest, monsters and rewards can change on return, and a growing caravan of survivors who act as vendors and companions in place of towns^[4]
The first three classes are the returning Demon Hunter, with twin crossbows, the returning Monk, and the all-new Plague Knight, which spreads disease and pestilence and then consumes it for power^[4]
Itemization is inspired by Diablo II: Blizzard is experimenting with stat requirements on gear, larger items again take more inventory slots, gear-based sets return, and crafting includes Diablo II-style Runes and Runewords^[4]
