Sony Electronics introduced the WH-1000XM4C, billed on its product page as "M4 2nd Gen", in a press release dated Sept. 7, 2026^[1][2][3]
Price is $299.99 USD / $429.99 CAD, which Engadget notes is $50 less than the M4 at its 2020 launch and $150 less than the WH-1000XM6^[1][2][3]
Availability is stated only as "this fall", in Black and Platinum Silver at retail with Lavender exclusive to Sony and Amazon; Sony's own product page lists all three colours and an estimated delivery of Sep 23-24^[1][2][3]
Two other models launched alongside it: the WH-CH730N, replacing the WH-CH720N, with redesigned ear cups, a folding headband, up to 10 percent more noise reduction, AI call noise reduction and up to 50 hours with ANC (75 without) at $179.99 USD / $249.99 CAD from September 2026, and the WH-CH530, replacing the WH-CH520, with no ANC, 55 hours of playback (up five), 10-band and gaming EQ and AI call noise reduction at $69.99 USD / $99.99 CAD^[2][3]
The colour lists for those two differ between sources - Sony gives the CH730N in Black, White, Pink and Blue with Oat exclusive to Sony and Amazon, where Engadget lists black, blue, tan, white and pink; for the CH530 Sony gives Black, Cobalt, White and Pink with Coral and Mint exclusive, against Engadget's black, purple, green, white, pink and coral^[2][3]
Sony's release also mentions a Sony x Hello Kitty collaboration and the existing WH-1000XM6 and 1000X THE COLLEXION lines, with a quote from Masaaki Hori, VP of personal entertainment^[2]

Notable features

It is a refresh of the WH-1000XM4 rather than a new design - the same physical design, ANC powered by the QN1 chip - with updated sound tuning, a new 10-band equalizer and a gaming EQ, multipoint Bluetooth and Quick Access^[2][3]
What Hi-Fi? reports the main hardware change is the battery: the original XM4 was withdrawn because its battery did not meet EU battery regulation (EU) 2023/1542, which requires portable batteries to be removable by the end user from February 2027, and the new battery is smaller; the 40mm driver, DSEE Extreme and HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1 carry over, the tuning moves closer to the WH-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM6, and 'L' and 'R' markings are added inside the earcups^[4]
Battery life is up to 27 hours with ANC - three hours less than the M4, and four less with ANC off - with a 3-minute quick charge giving an hour of playback^[1][3]
Sony's page also lists 1000X Series noise cancelling, a lightweight foldable design, crystal-clear call quality, customizable touch controls, multipoint connection and Sony Sound Connect app support, with DSEE Extreme activated through that app^[1]
