Africa CDC and WHO welcomed the end of Uganda's Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak after 42 consecutive days without a new confirmed case, counted from the last imported patient's discharge on 16 July 2026. Uganda reported 20 confirmed cases (15 imported from DRC, 5 local), 18 recoveries and 2 deaths.

WHO's 25 September Disease Outbreak News reports the DRC outbreak spread to Bulu (Sud Ubangi, a new province) and Dungu (Haut-Uele, bordering South Sudan), for 63 health zones in seven provinces. As of 23 September the DRC had 7,890 confirmed cases including 3,799 deaths (CFR 48.1%).

WHO's Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization holds its autumn meeting on 5-8 October 2026 at WHO headquarters in hybrid format, by invitation only; the agenda is to be published nearer the time.

WHO's IHR Emergency Committee on the Bundibugyo Ebola epidemic is due to reconvene, roughly three months after its 18 August meeting, to say whether the emergency still stands. WHO counts 7,890 confirmed cases and 3,799 deaths in the DRC as of 23 September 2026.

The World Health Assembly opens in Geneva on 23 May 2027 with the Pandemic Agreement's pathogen access and benefit-sharing (PABS) annex due for consideration after member states extended the negotiations in 2026.
