Line 22, built as the Pinggu line, is the first inter-provincial metro line between Beijing and Hebei: 81.82 km and 22 stations from Dongdaqiao in Chaoyang through Tongzhou and Sanhe in Hebei out to Pinggu, using 8-car Type D trains at up to 160 km/h. Empty trial running between Hongmiao and Pinggu began on 25 August 2026; Jintai Xizhao and Dongdaqiao are held back to 2029.

A 3.5 km fully underground northern extension carries the Daxing airport line one stop on from Caoqiao to Lize Shangwuqu in Fengtai District, bringing the airport service closer to central Beijing. Work on the extension started in 2020.

Phase 1 of Line 28 runs 8.877 km with nine stations beneath Chaoyang's Central Business District, from Dongdaqiao to Guangqudonglu by way of Guanghualu, Dawang Lu and Beijing East railway station. Construction started in July 2021.
