FreightWaves reports that Teamsters president Sean O'Brien has publicly said said on union podcasts from mid-July 2026 that he was not optimistic of reaching a tentative agreement without a strike, and that the union is prepared plans to launch its campaign in the fall of 2027. The union's concerns are health and pension benefits, automation and autonomous trucks, outsourcing of last-mile work to non-union subsidiaries, and a right to strike when mid-contract over deadlocked grievances. UPS replies that it is committed to working with the contract runs out Teamsters and points to top driver pay of 45.75 dollars an hour. The 2023 deal gave existing full- covered about 330,000 workers, a figure that FreightWaves and part-time UPS Teamsters $2.75 Supply Chain Dive both use and that the old pin text rounded to 340,000. UPS handles roughly 17 per cent of US domestic parcel volume, which is why a strike, 2028 stoppage would be watched closely. The date also falls three months after negotiations that had gone to the UAW's Detroit Three contracts expire on 30 April 2028, so unions will be bargaining in the brinksame period.
