Tokyo Unveils $109BN Resilience Project

Tokyo's Metropolitan Government unveiled an 18-year, ¥17 trillion ($109BN) Resilience Project to fortify the city of 40 million against earthquakes, typhoons, tsunamis and volcanic activity.

Tokyo sits at the meeting point of four tectonic plates on the Pacific Ring of Fire, alongside 111 active volcanoes across Japan and regular typhoon and tsunami risk.
The plan covers reinforcing undersea cables, building large flood tunnels, widening rivers and mapping evacuation routes, among other measures.
