Fraport presented the first vehicle of its new automated Sky Line people-mover for Frankfurt Airport's €4 billion Terminal 3, a key milestone as the terminal neared completion.

Fraport CEO Dr. Stefan Schulte presented the first of 12 Sky Line vehicles for Frankfurt Airport's Terminal 3, supplied by Siemens Mobility's Vienna factory^[2]
First test trips were scheduled for 2023^[2]
Max Bögl builds much of the 5.6 km route, mostly on columns at 14 m height, work begun July 2019 and on schedule^[2]
Travel from the train stations to Terminal 3 takes eight minutes with vehicles every two minutes^[2]

Notable features

A driverless people mover based on Siemens Mobility’s Val system, already used at airports in Bangkok and Paris, running fully automatically around the clock alongside the existing Terminal 1-2 Sky Line^[3]
Each vehicle has two linked cars (11 m long, 15 t each) and the driverless system can carry up to 4,000 people an hour per direction^[2]
Each car is 2.8 m wide; one car of each vehicle is reserved for non-Schengen travellers, and the cabins have many folding seats for luggage space and specially designed grab bars^[2][3]
The vehicles run on angled wheels around a guide rail mounted on a concrete surface^[2][3]
