A VEB Wohnungsbaukombinat Berlin construction brigade set the first concrete panel of a WBS 70 apartment block at Marchwitzastraße on 8 July 1977, starting what became Europe's largest prefabricated housing estate with 103,000 flats built in 15 years.

The Peter Zeises construction brigade of VEB Wohnungsbaukombinat Berlin set the first WBS 70 concrete panel at Marchwitzastraße 35-45 on 8 July 1977.
The building topped out just two months later, on 2 September 1977, and its first tenants moved in on 18 December 1977.
Over the following 13 years the GDR built roughly 103,000 apartments across Marzahn using the WBS 70 prefabricated panel system, making it the largest such estate in Europe.
Chief architect Roland Korn led the design team chosen through a 1973 competition.
