NorthPoint Development of Kansas City plans Project Hazelnut, a 15-building hyperscale data center on a roughly 1,250-acre former mine site in Hazle Township, using enough power for 90,000 homes and cooled with sewer water. The project, part of Pennsylvania’s Fast Track program, is projected to create 900 permanent jobs but faces public opposition over power-line and tax-break issues. NorthPoint has already built a 1-million-square-foot warehouse nearby and now owns over 1,500 acres in the area. As of mid-November, the Hazle Township Board of Supervisors unanimously rejected the land application that would have enabled the project's construction. Developers still have have ability to appeal within 30 days, hence this proposal has been marked as rejected.
