The Fehmarn Belt tunnel is a 17.6 km immersed road-rail tunnel between Lolland (Denmark) and Fehmarn (Germany), four lanes plus two electrified tracks, cutting Hamburg-Copenhagen rail travel from 4 h 40 to about 2 h 30^[1]
Newer, authoritative date: on 16 January 2026 Sund and Baelt said the tunnel is two years behind and will open no earlier than 2031, versus the 2029 target in the pin; the difficulty was immersing segments at 45 m depth with half-centimetre precision^[1][3]
