A magnitude 7.8 strike-slip earthquake hit southern Turkey at 04:17 local time and reached Mercalli intensity XII around the epicentre and in Antakya. A magnitude 7.5 shock followed nine hours later.

Two earthquakes on 6 February 2023 devastated southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria. [S]
