Boeing's prototype 737-100, N73700, took off from Boeing Field in Seattle on April 9, 1967 and landed at Paine Field in Everett about two and a half hours later, opening the flight-test program for the first 737.

Southwest Airlines became the first airline to take a Next-Generation 737-700 on December 17, 1997, at Boeing Field, four years after launching the program with an order for 63 aircraft.
