CERN's own press release is dated the day of the seminar, and Wikipedia's[2] Higgs boson article repeats it throughout: "On 4 July 2012, the discovery of a new particle with a mass between 125 and 127 GeV/c2 was announced" and "On 4 July 2012 both of the CERN experiments announced they had independently made the same discovery".At a seminar at CERN, the ATLAS and CMS experiments each report a new boson at around 125-126 GeV at five sigma, independently and from the same data-taking runs. It is the last unverified piece of the Standard Model.
