Dutch Regulator RDW Approves Tesla FSD (Supervised), a First in Europe
- The Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW) issued a type approval for Tesla's FSD (Supervised) on 10 April 2026, after examining and testing it for more than a year and a half on its test track and public roads[1]
- It is the first approval of the system in Europe, granted under UN Regulation 171 for driver control assistance systems, with provisional validity of at least 36 months[4][5]
- RDW stressed that a car using FSD Supervised 'is not self-driving': the driver stays responsible, may take hands off the wheel but must be able to take over at once, and cameras check the driver's eyes are on the road[1]
- Tesla supplied 1.6 million km of EU test data, 13,000 customer ride-alongs and 4,500 track test scenarios against more than 400 requirements[4][5]
- Tesla had expected approval by 20 March; it came about three weeks later[5]
- The approval applies only in the Netherlands; for all EU member states RDW must submit an application to the European Commission and a majority of member states must vote for it[1]
- Tesla later received approvals in Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark and Belgium, and by July drivers there had covered over 50 million km on FSD[2]

Something missing or wrong? Say it in your own words: a link that backs this pin up, a different start or end date and why, or a fact it lacks or gets wrong. The AI checks it against this pin's sources, searches for better ones, and adds any page that backs you up. The pin's own sources still count most. A picture that shows something else, or shows it badly, is looked at too, and moved down or replaced.
