The biem butter sprayer, from Brevda, Inc. of Austin, Texas, was introduced on 1 March 2016 and opened for pre-order at BiemSpray.com[3]
It is a handheld rechargeable device that turns a stick of real butter into a spray using heat and air, with no chemical propellants and a patent-pending non-clogging nozzle[1][3]
It is touch-controlled and motion-detecting, melts only the butter needed, and can be stored in the fridge or at room temperature[1][3]
Brevda claims it cuts an estimated 50 percent of calories versus spreading with a knife; it can also spray oils such as coconut or olive oil[3]
Creator Doug Foreman (founder of Beanitos and Guiltless Gourmet) spent two years developing it[3]
By 28 March 2016 its Kickstarter had over $200,000 pledged against a $42,000 goal from about 1,500 backers, with a $129 basic pledge[2]
