1.85 inches of rain fell in Central Park, breaking a daily record from 1917, as flash floods swamped streets and subway stations; two men died in flooded basements in Crown Heights and Washington Heights.

The base subway, local bus and Access-A-Ride fare rose 10 cents to $3 and the express bus fare to $7.25, while OMNY's weekly fare cap of $35 became permanent in place of MetroCard unlimited passes.

The Metro Board chose a fully underground heavy-rail line, Modified Alternative 5, to link the San Fernando Valley with the Westside through the Sepulveda Pass, a trip Metro says will take under 20 minutes.

Section 2 of the D Line extension adds 2.59 miles of subway and two stations, Beverly Drive and Century City, carrying the line west from Wilshire/La Cienega.
