The European Commission's own environment page states the destruction ban 'enters into application' on 19 July 2026 for large companies, under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).[1]New European Union rules under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation banned large companies from destroying unsold apparel, clothing accessories and footwear, aiming to cut the 4-9% of unsold European textiles estimated to be destroyed each year.
