The Thomas Crown Affair is a 1968 American heist film directed by Norman Jewison and written by Alan R. Trustman. Starring Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway, Paul Burke, and Jack Weston, the film follows Vicki Anderson (Dunaway), who is hired to investigate the culprits of a multi-million dollar bank heist orchestrated by Thomas Crown (McQueen).

Boeing rolled out the first 747 from its new Everett, Washington factory on 30 September 1968 before representatives of 26 airlines. The 231-foot jumbo jet was the first widebody and was christened by 26 flight attendants, one from each customer airline.

The Soviet Tupolev Tu-144 prototype CCCP-68001 flew for 37 minutes from Zhukovsky on 31 December 1968, two months before Concorde, to become the first supersonic airliner to fly.

Zenith announced the El Primero on 10 January 1969, a high-frequency 36,000 vph automatic chronograph movement that beat the Chrono-matic group by almost two months and later powered the Rolex Daytona.

Concorde 002, G-BSST, took off from Filton near Bristol on 9 April 1969 with Brian Trubshaw at the controls and landed at RAF Fairford, five weeks after French prototype 001 first flew.

On 29 May 1969 French transport minister Jean Chamant and German economics minister Karl Schiller signed the agreement that launched the Airbus A300, the first twin-engine wide-body airliner, during the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget.

The Tu-144 prototype went supersonic for the first time on 5 June 1969, four months before Concorde, and reached Mach 2.02 on 26 May 1970.
