Embraer's first E190, PP-XMA, flew on 12 March 2004 from São José dos Campos, starting the flight-test campaign for the 98-108 seat stretch that JetBlue launched.
- The prototype ERJ-190, c/n 19000001 and registered PP-XMA, made its first flight on 12 March 2004; Embraer later dropped the ERJ prefix in marketing in favour of a plain 'E'[1]
- It followed the 2002 E170 prototype and added a new larger wing, stabiliser and the 20,000 lbf CF34-10E engines; JetBlue had ordered 100 of them in 2003[2][4]
- The E190 entered service with launch customer JetBlue on 8 November 2005 (Skybrary), and by January 2010 263 had been delivered with 185 on order[2]
- The E190 and E195 fly mainline routes rather than regional ones and are often configured with a business class, putting them in competition with Airbus and Boeing narrowbodies (AXON)[3]
