Siemens Unveils Its Vectron Locomotive at InnoTrans
- Siemens introduced its Vectron locomotive family at InnoTrans 2010 in Berlin in four prototype versions: diesel, multi-system, AC and DC electric; it is a modular Bo'Bo' design succeeding the EuroSprinter[2][3]
- The first AC and multi-system locomotives were presented to the industry at Wegberg-Wildenrath in June 2010[2][3]
- Early orders were Railpool (6 AC, 2010), FuoriMuro (2 DC, 2012) and DB Cargo Polska (23 DC, 2012)[2]

Notable features
- It can be configured for any or all of the four catenary systems common in Europe (1.5 kV DC, 3 kV DC, 25 kV 50 Hz AC and 15 kV 16.7 Hz AC); its train control and traction control come from the ES64F4 and ES64U4 EuroSprinters and its traction system from the ER20 Eurorunner[2]
- Standard top speed is 160 km/h, upgradeable to 200 km/h without changing bogies; electric variants give 5.2 or 6.4 MW and up to 230 km/h, with a detachable front deformation zone[2][3]
- Electric versions are 18.98 m long over buffers and 3.012 m wide, weigh about 80-90 t with a maximum axle load of 22.5 t, ride on Siemens SF4 bogies and give 300 kN of starting tractive effort[2]
- Pre-designed mounting points for track equipment and modular safety-equipment cabinets simplify reconfiguration for different countries; braking combines wheel-mounted discs with regenerative electric braking[2]
- The Vectron has the pulling power of 23 trucks, costs up to 4.5 million euros and is built in Munich, according to the film[1]
