On 19 February 1982 Boeing's prototype 757-200, N757A, took off from Renton and landed at Paine Field after 2 hours 31 minutes, with an air restart of the number 2 engine on the way. It had been rolled out on 13 January 1982.

The FAA approved the Boeing 757-200 on 21 December 1982 after an engine-icing problem found in testing pushed the schedule back a month. Eastern Air Lines took its first 757 the next day and started service on 1 January 1983.

The prototype 737-300, the first re-engined 737 with CFM56 turbofans, flew for the first time on February 24, 1984, starting a nine-month certification program for the second-generation 737 Classic.

The stretched Boeing 757-300 took off from Renton at 10:08 a.m. PDT on 2 August 1998 and flew for 2 hours 25 minutes, with the flight webcast live. Launch customer Condor had ordered 12 in September 1996.

Boeing delivered the 1,050th and last 757, a 757-200 for Shanghai Airlines, on 27 April 2005, ending a 23-year run. The jet, the first 757 delivered as a Chapter 4 low-noise airplane, had been celebrated at a Renton ceremony in October 2004.

Boeing's board approved the re-engined 737, named the 737 MAX, on August 30, 2011, based on commitments for 496 airplanes from five airlines, with LEAP-1B engines and deliveries to begin in 2017.

The first 737 MAX 8 took off from Renton on January 29, 2016 and landed at Boeing Field after a two-hour, 47-minute flight, starting flight testing of the re-engined 737 family on schedule.

The largest 737 MAX, the 737-10, took off from Renton at 10:07 a.m. on June 18, 2021 and landed at Boeing Field after about two and a half hours, starting a test program Boeing then expected to end in 2023.
