Elon Musk announces timing for Tesla Cybertruck delivery event

In a conference call following the release of the results, CEO Elon Musk made new comments announcing that Tesla plans to hold a “handover event,” which generally means the first deliveries of a new car, toward “the end of the third quarter.”

This would put the first Tesla Cybertruck deliveries around September 2023. It’s the most precise timing of Cybertruck deliveries that Tesla has released to date.

Based on the launch of Tesla’s most recent models, especially the Model Y, we should expect Tesla to only deliver a few Cybertrucks during the delivery event, likely only to Tesla insiders, and we can expect months between the event and the start of deliveries to customers.

Interestingly, Musk also said that Cybertruck reservation holders should expect to get an update on specs and pricing at that event at the end of Q3.

In previous comments, Musk indicated that the Cybertruck would be available in a new top-of-the-line variant with quad motors rather than the tri-motor powertrain originally announced.

Newer update: on October 18, 2023 Musk said the delivery event would be held November 30 at Giga Texas, after the Q3 timing and earlier summer 2023 promise were missed^[5]
At the November 30, 2023 event at Gigafactory Texas, Tesla announced three variants: a single-motor RWD at $60,990 for 2025, a dual-motor AWD at $79,990 and a tri-motor "Cyberbeast" at $99,990, both for 2024^[2]
Production ramp expected in 2024, with capacity under 125,000 a year at mass production reached in 2025; Musk cited enormous challenges reaching volume production^[5]

Notable features

The Cybertruck is a battery-electric full-size pickup with an angular body of flat, unpainted 300-series stainless steel panels 1.8 mm thick on the doors and 1.4 mm on the body, laser-cut and bent rather than stamped^[2]
The dual-motor AWD produces 600 hp with 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds, and the tri-motor Cyberbeast 845 hp with 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds; towing capacity is 11,000 lb for both^[2]
It uses an 816 V nominal structural battery pack of 4680 cells with a maximum capacity of 123 kWh, charging at up to 350 kW on 800 V DC, plus a 48-volt low-voltage electrical system^[2]
Steer-by-wire needs less than a full turn of the wheel lock to lock, four-wheel steering turns the rear wheels up to 10 degrees, and adjustable air suspension on the AWD trims gives up to 17.4 inches of ground clearance^[2]
The bed is 6 feet long and 4 feet wide with 67 cubic feet of volume, and the dual- and tri-motor trims have a motorized roller-shutter tonneau cover and 120 V and 240 V outlets^[2]
