Claudia Goldin Wins the Nobel in Economics for Research on Women's Work
- On 9 October 2023 the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences to Claudia Goldin of Harvard "for having advanced our understanding of women's labour market outcomes"[1]

- Trawling more than 200 years of US data, she showed that women's labour participation did not rise steadily but formed a U-shaped curve: married women's participation fell with the shift from farming to industry in the early nineteenth century and rose with the growth of the service sector in the early twentieth[1]
- Her work finds that most of today's earnings gap between women and men arises within the same occupation and largely appears with the birth of the first child[1]
- The prize carried 11 million Swedish kronor[1]
