The shortened, long-range Boeing 747SP flew for the first time on 4 July 1975. Built for Pan Am's New York-Middle East routes, it entered service with Pan Am on 25 April 1976.

On 14 July 1978 United Airlines ordered 30 Boeing 767-200 twinjets worth US$1.2 billion, giving Boeing the launch customer for its first twin-aisle twinjet. United bundled it with 30 727-200s in a package then billed as the largest single transaction in commercial aviation.

The first Boeing 767-200, N767BA, flew for the first time on 26 September 1981 from Everett, Washington, seven weeks after its rollout. It began a ten-month flight-test program that used the first six aircraft built.

On 19 August 1982 Boeing handed the first 767 (N606UA, ninth off the line) to United Airlines at its Everett plant. United put it into service on 8 September as flight UA1767 from Chicago to Denver.

The first Boeing 747-400, N401PW, flew from Paine Field on 29 April 1988, six weeks behind schedule. The advanced 747 added a two-crew glass cockpit, winglets and new engines, and went on to be the most common 747 variant.

On 15 October 1990 United Airlines placed firm orders for 34 Boeing 777s (plus 34 options) in a US$11 billion deal that also covered 30 747-400s, giving Boeing the launch customer it needed to proceed with the twin-engine 777.

On 9 April 1994 Boeing rolled the first 777, WA001, out of its Everett factory in 15 ceremonies held through the day for about 100,000 guests, two months before its first flight.

The US FAA and Europe's Joint Aviation Authorities certified the Boeing 777-200 on 19 April 1995, ten months after its first flight and about a month before the first delivery.

Boeing handed United Airlines the first production 777, a 777-200 registered N777UA, on 15 May 1995 at Everett, making United the launch customer in service.

The first Boeing 767-400ER, VQ001, lifted off from Paine Field at 12:10 p.m. on 9 October 1999 for a five-hour test flight to Boeing Field. The longest 767 had been launched in April 1997 with a 21-aircraft Delta order.

Boeing, Air France and lessor ILFC celebrated the delivery of the first 777-300ER on 29 April 2004, the extended-range stretch that became the best-selling 777.

Boeing launched the 747-8 program on 14 November 2005, with Cargolux ordering 10 freighters and Nippon Cargo Airlines eight, orders valued at about US$5 billion at list prices. The stretched 747 would use GEnx engines and Dreamliner technology.

Boeing unveiled the first 787-8 to 15,000 guests at its Everett factory on 8 July 2007, with 677 orders from 47 airlines already booked. The airplane had no major systems installed yet, and the program slipped by more than two years before it first flew.

Boeing delivered the first 777 Freighter to launch customer Air France Cargo at a ceremony near Paine Field on 19 February 2009, days after FAA and EASA certification.

Boeing's 747-8 Freighter, the largest airplane the company had built, flew for the first time from Paine Field on 8 February 2010, a year later than planned. The 3 hour 39 minute flight began a test program of more than 1,600 flight hours.

The FAA and EASA certified the Rolls-Royce-powered 787-8 on 26 August 2011 at a ceremony in Everett, clearing the way for first delivery. Certification came nearly two years after first flight.

Boeing and ANA signed the papers on 25 September 2011 completing delivery of the first 787, more than three years after the 2008 start of deliveries Boeing announced at launch. ANA flew it home to Tokyo on 27 September and began passenger service on 26 October.

Boeing handed over the first 747-8 Intercontinental delivered to an airline, D-ABYA for Lufthansa, in Everett on 25 April 2012. The airplane flew to Frankfurt on 1 May and began revenue flights to Washington Dulles on 1 June.

The stretched 787-9 flew for the first time on 17 September 2013, a 5-hour, 16-minute flight from Paine Field to Boeing Field. Boeing called it a no-squawk flight and targeted certification and first delivery for mid-2014.

Boeing celebrated the first 787-9 delivery with launch customer Air New Zealand at Everett on 9 July 2014, handing over a black-liveried jet, the first of 10 on order. Contract signing was on 30 June.

The first Boeing 777-9, test airplane WH001, took off from Paine Field at 10:09 a.m. on 25 January 2020 and landed at Boeing Field after a 3 hour 51 minute flight.

Boeing delivered the last 747, a 747-8 Freighter for Atlas Air, in Everett on 31 January 2023 before thousands of employees and guests. It was the 1,574th 747 built, ending more than half a century of production.

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg announced on 11 October 2024 that Boeing will stop building the 767 freighter in 2027 after filling its remaining 29 orders, ending the airliner line at Everett. The 767-2C tanker for the KC-46A will continue beyond 2027.

The FAA certified the Boeing 737 MAX 10, the largest and last member of the 737 MAX family, on October 20, 2026, issuing an amended type certificate and clearing Boeing to begin deliveries with WestJet first.

As of 21 October 2026 the 777-9 is still in FAA type-certification testing: ETOPS flight-test approval is on hold over a GE9X engine mid-seal issue, and the FAA Administrator has said he hopes certification comes early in 2027.
