Ukraine Confirms Operation Vivaldi Counteroffensive Near Lyman
- On 15 September 2026 Third Army Corps commander Andriy Biletskyi confirmed a counteroffensive in northern Donetsk region that had run under an information blackout, saying it cleared 75 square kilometres[1]
- He said Novoselivka, Oleksandrivka and Yarova and the outskirts of Korovyi Yar were cleared and Serednie retaken, and that Russia's 20th and 25th armies lost about 1,500 troops and more than 12,000 drones, figures that could not be verified[1]
- Named after Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, the operation was only in its first 'season', Biletskyi said[1]
- On 20 September he announced a second phase that took another 40 square kilometres, including Shandryholove and Derylove[3]
- Russia's defence ministry denied the Ukrainian gains; ISW assessed that the operation made a Russian encirclement of Ukraine's fortress belt from the north unfeasible[2]
