This Day in Aviation: '19 February 1982: At Renton Municipal Airport, Boeing test pilots John H. Armstrong and Samuel Lewis ("Lew") Wallick, Jr., made the first flight of the prototype Model 757 airliner'; the Seattle Times^[5] also dates it 19 Feb.

On 19 February 1982 Boeing's prototype 757-200, N757A, took off from Renton and landed at Paine Field after 2 hours 31 minutes, with an air restart of the number 2 engine on the way. It had been rolled out on 13 January 1982.

The FAA approved the Boeing 757-200 on 21 December 1982 after an engine-icing problem found in testing pushed the schedule back a month. Eastern Air Lines took its first 757 the next day and started service on 1 January 1983.

Boeing's release dated 28 April 2005: 'Boeing yesterday concluded the remarkable 23-year run of the 757 passenger airplane by delivering the final one to Shanghai Airlines.' (yesterday = 27 April 2005).^[1]

Boeing delivered the 1,050th and last 757, a 757-200 for Shanghai Airlines, on 27 April 2005, ending a 23-year run. The jet, the first 757 delivered as a Chapter 4 low-noise airplane, had been celebrated at a Renton ceremony in October 2004.
