The FAA issued an Emergency Order of Prohibition on March 13, 2019 grounding the 737 MAX 8 and 9 three days after Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed, joining regulators worldwide in a 20-month grounding.

On 12 September 2019 Embraer handed over its first E195-E2, its largest jet ever, to lessor AerCap for launch operator Azul, which configured it with 136 seats; certification had come in April.

The first Boeing 777-9, test airplane WH001, took off from Paine Field at 10:09 a.m. on 25 January 2020 and landed at Boeing Field after a 3 hour 51 minute flight.

On 25 April 2020 Boeing said it had ended its Master Transaction Agreement with Embraer after the 24 April initial termination date passed, killing a planned joint venture; Embraer rejected Boeing's reasons.

FAA Administrator Steve Dickson signed an order on November 18, 2020 rescinding the 737 MAX grounding and published an airworthiness directive requiring the design changes before the 737-8 and 737-9 could carry passengers again.

COMAC handed the world's first production C919 (B-919A, 164 seats) to launch customer China Eastern at Shanghai Pudong on 9 December 2022; it flew a 15-minute commemorative flight to Hongqiao.

Boeing delivered the last 747, a 747-8 Freighter for Atlas Air, in Everett on 31 January 2023 before thousands of employees and guests. It was the 1,574th 747 built, ending more than half a century of production.

China Eastern flight MU9191 flew the C919's first commercial service from Shanghai Hongqiao to Beijing Capital on 28 May 2023, departing 10:32 with about 130 passengers.

EASA certified the CFM LEAP-1A-powered A321XLR on 19 July 2024, clearing the 4,700 nmi single-aisle for service at the end of the summer.

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg announced on 11 October 2024 that Boeing will stop building the 767 freighter in 2027 after filling its remaining 29 orders, ending the airliner line at Everett. The 767-2C tanker for the KC-46A will continue beyond 2027.

Airbus delivered the first A321XLR to Iberia in Hamburg on 30 October 2024, making the Spanish carrier launch operator of the 4,700 nmi single-aisle.

On 13 November 2024 ATR said it would end development of the ATR 42-600S short-take-off variant, citing a smaller market and supply-chain problems, after 20 commitments and a 2022 first flight.

The first A350-1000ULR, MSN707 F-WULR, flew from Toulouse on 2 June 2026 for 3 hours 43 minutes, starting a two-month campaign to certify the rear centre tank that lets Qantas plan 22-hour Project Sunrise flights.

The A350-1000ULR test aircraft left Toulouse at 07:33 on 23 July 2026 and landed in Melbourne 19 hours 12 minutes later, the first Project Sunrise aircraft to reach Australia; the return flight took 24 hours 24 minutes.

Boeing's 13 October 2026 delivery release counts 22 787s delivered in the third quarter and 62 so far this year, and its second-quarter filing says the line had stabilized at eight a month. Boeing plans to move to 10 a month at its South Carolina expansion.

The FAA certified the Boeing 737 MAX 10, the largest and last member of the 737 MAX family, on October 20, 2026, issuing an amended type certificate and clearing Boeing to begin deliveries with WestJet first.

As of 21 October 2026 the 777-9 is still in FAA type-certification testing: ETOPS flight-test approval is on hold over a GE9X engine mid-seal issue, and the FAA Administrator has said he hopes certification comes early in 2027.

As launch customer, WestJet expects to take the first Boeing 737-10 in early 2027 once Transport Canada and EASA validate the FAA certification, which Boeing's Mike Sinnett put at "probably a couple months" away.
