With the 2023 retail pay talks stuck, Aldi Nord raised tariff pay for its more than 39,000 store staff in Germany by 5.3% from 1 October, to be set against whatever ver.di and the employers finally agreed.

Aldi Nord raised the pay of its more than 39,000 tariff-paid retail staff in Germany by 5.3% from 1 October 2023, apprentices included^[1][4]
It followed a recommendation from the HDE retail employers' federation for rises without an agreement, after more than five months and over 50 bargaining rounds with ver.di^[1]
The advance is to be offset in full against the rises eventually negotiated for each tariff region^[1][4]
On 6 March 2024, with still no agreement after more than a year, Aldi Nord announced a second voluntary step over the following months, varying by region, taking the total to 10%^[2][3]
