Amazon Pauses Operations With 21 Air After Miami Crash

A week after 21 Air Flight 7598 overran a Miami runway and killed five people, Amazon said it had paused its operations with the North Carolina cargo carrier, which had flown Amazon Air packages since 2024.

Amazon said it had decided to pause its operations with 21 Air, the operator of Flight 7598, after spending time supporting the investigation and reviewing some of the surrounding circumstances of the crash.^[1][2]
The statement from spokesperson Kelly Nantel was posted on 13 September at 4:15 p.m. PT; Amazon said it will continue working to support the investigation and everyone affected.^[1]
On 6 September the 21 Air Boeing 767 came in fast, ran roughly 1,300 feet past the end of the Miami runway and hit a van of plane-cleaning workers; all five people killed were in the van.^[2]
Amazon has said it will use other carriers for shipments that would have gone to 21 Air; its other carriers include Sun Country Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Air Transport International, ABX Air, ASL Airlines and Cargojet.^[4]
21 Air, which had flown packages for Amazon since 2024 and also flies for DHL, said it remained focused on the families and on working with the NTSB, and was confident in its safety policies, procedures and training.^[2][3]
Former pilots had raised concerns about 21 Air's safety culture before the crash, which the company disputes; Amazon says it contracts only with FAA-certified carriers.^[5]
